Andrew is a freelance rail systems technical and strategic consultant who has worked on railways around the world ranging from fully automated people movers to international high-speed rail. He started his career in 1991 as a signalling, control systems and communications trainee on London Underground, after which he worked in signalling maintenance and asset management, and then in signalling design. In 2000, he moved into consultancy and specified the solutions to many of the line upgrades required under the LU PPP contract. Since then he has taken senior roles in Atkins, Interfleet and and SNC-Lavalin, culminating in being appointed as an Atkins Fellow. Now working independently, he specialises in capacity and reliability optimisation, sustainability and resilience.
Andrew is well known in our industry for delivering classes to support candidates sitting the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers' Professional Examinations and is a regular speaker at industry events.
